Objectives:

With the emergence of a global information society, new opportunities are arising for cost-effective solutions to education and training. The convergence of information and communication technologies is enabling the creation and implementation of computer aided and/or multimedia based techniques. It is recognized that traditional, mass-produced, highly controlled static and rigid educational and training methods cannot cope with the greatly increased demand for higher education and with the need to bring ever-increasing amounts of information, knowledge and expert reasoning to students who may be far from a traditional classroom. We increasingly hear concepts like "virtual class" or "virtual laboratory". The planned conference has the goal of bringing together experts to discuss the current state of the art in this area. Internet-based education and training will be a topic of particular interest.
